Meet Sophie
Welcome to my website. I have been offering therapeutic support to individuals for over 20 years, seeing children, adolescents and adults, offering short-term, solution-focused counselling; usually 6 – 12 sessions as well as longer-term psychotherapy. My work is flexible, offering weekly, fortnightly and monthly slots and is sympathetic to the demands individuals have in this modern world. I offer daytime and early evening appointments.
My working background is in adult and adolescent mental health care and school counselling, having worked in secure psychiatric hospitals, acute wards, children’s residential units, a day treatment centre offering group therapies for outpatients suffering with mental health problems, a complementary health clinic, and a secondary school where I ran a counselling service for 1600 students. I most recently worked for TalkPLUS, www.talkplus.org.uk, a free NHS primary care mental health service, before focusing on my private work.
I have worked from the bottom up to allow me to fully engage in the system and understand how to help people. This has made me a better therapist with a sound knowledge of how complex we are as humans, and how this can make our relationships so hard.
My work with children and adolescents - I am passionate about my work with young people and make every effort to completely step into their world and understand how they see it. Sessions are tailored to their needs using talking and creative therapies. I recognise the ever changing climate for our young people, and work closely with parents, as needed, to help support the needs of their child or young person. I have experience supporting a child or young person navigating a family divorce and I am closely linked to a collaborative law group who see the benefit of minimising conflict as much as possible and resolving issues in a non-adversarial and transparent way; www.collaborativelawgroup.co.uk/content/family-consultants.
I believe all young people need an opportunity to express themselves in a safe and confidential space with someone who is removed from friends and family.
When I am not offering therapy, I am a proud Mummy and the founder of Smile Sleigh, an initiative providing support to women and children affected by domestic abuse. You can also find me in the kitchen cooking, or on an endless walk, preferably up a mountain!
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sophie
